Why Blog?

A good question don’t you think? There are now so many blogs online that the world is filled with information overload. People are utilizing blogs to share their thoughts on everything you can possibly imagine. But, from a small business standpoint, why blog? If you run a small business or non-profit organization in Halifax, Nova Scotia…why should you blog?

Current business and marketing literature suggests that if a small business wants to establish credibility as an authority in their area of product or service that they should write regularly on topics relevant to their constituency. It allows your customers the opportunity to get comfortable with you, your organization, your products, and your expertise. It may break down some of their fears or insecurities, and prepare them to interact in business with you. It builds their confidence factor in you and even lets them see your passion for what you do.

Another, rationale for blogging is that research shows it helps your organization to be found online. Based on some statistics compiled in recent blogs by Greg Stirling and David Mihm: 60% of all local business searches now happen online (33% happen in print yellow pages) and 82% of the people using local search sites follow up their research with offline action. - TMP Directional Marketing-comScore, August 2007

Blogging software allows your organization to have a currency factor that gets it picked up by the major search engines. If you are using appropriate key words for your business and for your local area, when someone goes online looking for products and services you provide, chances are they will find you. Chris Baggott writes: Our studies show that 95% of local blogs rank in the top 10 Google search results. The key for the Small Business Blogging best practice is to leverage the keywords that drive your business and always add that local qualifier…your town, your region etc….

I personally find this quite intriguing and it is one of the reasons I began this Marketing Integrity blog. To test all this to see if it does indeed work for a marketing company based in Halifax, Nova Scotia as the literature suggests it should. I like to test things to see if they work before I recommend them to others.

So, if small business owners in Nova Scotia are looking for marketing help, looking for marketing companies in Halifax, they should find Marketing Integrity, since we provide print and electronic marketing solutions for small business and non-profit organizations in Halifax, NS. If a business was looking for business cards, brochures, or for web site companies in Halifax, NS, they should find Marketing Integrity because we are a marketing company in Halifax, Nova Scotia. We are Halifax area marketing specialists. (See what I am doing here…I am utilizing the key words and adding in our local qualifier).

So, theoretically, if you are blogging, searchers looking for the products and services your organization provides should find you if you are using the same techniques. I’ll continue to do some of this local research for you and keep you updated in future posts related to this topic, and even below in additional comments.
