Card Distribution Guide
I’m all for handing out business cards. Especially if you have a good one. It is part of making your first impression. At networking events, this can turn into a process of chaos however. I came across a brilliant Guide for Handing Out Business Cards in an insightful article by Susan Sabo. I encourage you to read it and incorporate the tips she provides.
All too often (and I too have been guilty of some of the bad-practices she outlines) we forget that the business card is an extension of relationship building. Without connecting the card with the relationship, handing out your card is a wasteful and futile exercise. Susan points out that by incorporating the relationship approach into the card exchange
“you might walk away with only one or two cards from a business gathering. However they represent the start of real relationships not just the passing of paper.”
Good marketing and good networking are all about starting and building strong relationships…we are human beings after all. Cultivate relationships, not contacts and your business will be better off long-term.
