Passion: Going with Your Heart
Last week I wrote an article called Develop Your Blogging Voice. I shared how blogging has ignited my passion for marketing and ramped up my desire to learn through active reading of blogs and books on marketing. I mean it! I have been launched into a new-found excitement for how marketing can help small business and non-profit organizations be more successful. I love the opportunity Marketing Integrity gives me to help others realize their potential and rise to new levels.
Last Friday, Alan Johnson at Copyblogger wrote a post called The Art of Blogging: Business or Pleasure? He has some interesting and thought provoking elements to the post (and it certainly has launched some active commentary in the comments section). Alan says:
“No matter how well you try to hide something from readers, they are quickly able to determine if you are passionate about what you’re doing or not based on your writing style. You can try as hard as you want to, but the fact remains: if you don’t like what you are doing and if you are treating it as a chore then readers can and will pick up on that.“
I couldn’t agree more. If you are passionate about what you are doing it stands out. Sure, you can muddle through the actions or responsibilities (as a blogger or in your everyday work routines), but when passion is lit it is infectious and people can’t help but notice. You do what you do with a sense of joy and purpose.
For me passion is at the forefront of my mind because I have spent many a day in the corporate world the past few years just going through the motions. Re-discovering passion for marketing has re-kindled my creativity and my drive to help people and to make Marketing Integrity a Halifax-based marketing company that makes a difference for others…and for myself. It’s win-win don’t you think?
