May-Day: Twitter-4-Business?
I am on a Twitter quest. I am trying to figure out: Why Twitter? I have been asking many people over the past month what their take is on Twitter. Interestingly, many people I talk to have no idea what I am talking about when I mention this technology. For those of you totally unfamiliar with it, here is a simple video overview that I have come across to explain it…
Ok, I can see how and why staying connected with what my friends are up to, how that can be interesting if not somewhat amusing. However, I am still trying to discern the business value of it. I welcome your thoughts as my search continues. I’ll keep you posted…

Hey David,
I tried Twitter over a year ago and didn’t see the point, not enough people I knew or otherwise, were using it and so i dropped it.
More recently I explored it again when I was looking for a way to keep readers of my blog informed of what was going on when i was not blogging for days [or longer] at a time.
Once I found a need it solved it became much easier to get into.
Now I am adding it to my website for my rehearsal spaces i run - sometimes we have to close early, open late etc. - now customers and bands that rent from me monthly have a means of knowing up to the minute if w are open/closed/closing early etc.
And just this week I saw this Tweet that kind of rang true with me based on the folks I am following:
That most Twitterzens have pretty interesting lives and that most seem to be doing something that they love.
It’s a good self motivator when you can see people excited to be doing things they love.

I use it on my Facebook page - my FRIENDS get to know what I’m doing. I think of in terms of letting people get to know me. Maybe they are my real life friends or family (which is good to let people in on my day, which is often excluded from them), but even clients or prospects that are on my FRIENDS list - they can get a flavor of what’s important, what frustrates me, what brings me joy, who I enjoy being with, what I enjoy doing, what I spend my time doing - etc…..so I still waiting on a very tangible example for Twitter-4-Business, but I think it is useful to give people an insight into me.
Thanks Randy, I think you are on to something. Part of the value seems to be tied into helping your clients connect with you as a real person - so that they can relate to more than just a face-less organization.
